Speaking at a press meet, secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire said series of programmes will be organized to mark the world tourism day.
Some of these programmes include river-cleaning campaigns, placement of welcome banners with world tourism day slogan at Tribhuvan International Airport, rafting festival at Kurintar, broadcasting and airing of the theme of the World Tourism Day, cleaning programme at the Madi River, water sprouts and various tourism sites, launch of plastic free campaign, rafting at Trishuli and Bhotekoshi rivers, cycle rally and welcoming three tourists at TIA.
At the press meet held today, tourism representative stressed on the need to promote Eco-tourism by using products that can be recycled.
The purpose of the World Tourism Day is to generate awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values. The event seeks to address global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and highlight contributions that tourism sector can make to achieve these goals.
